Avengers: Doomsday World Series promo shows Mister Fantastic throwing a first pitch as Doctor Doom arrives; Sandra Hüller joins in a cameo

Marvel used baseball’s biggest stage to tease its biggest movie of the year. During Game 1 of the World Series on Friday, Oct. 23, Fox aired an exclusive sneak peek at Avengers: Doomsday in which Pedro Pascal’s Mister Fantastic takes the mound for a ceremonial first pitch, before Doctor Doom shows up over the ballpark.

The same day, Variety reported that Oscar nominee Sandra Hüller has a secret cameo in the film. Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on Dec. 18, 2026.

What happens in the Avengers: Doomsday World Series promo?

The spot aired during the Tampa Bay Rays’ and Milwaukee Brewers’ Game 1 broadcast on Fox. Based on reporting from Deadline and 9to5Marvel, here’s what it shows:

• The setting: It opens on an “Earth: 828” card, the Fantastic Four’s world, at a still-standing Ebbets Field, 9to5Marvel reported, citing MLB.com.
• The first pitch: Reed Richards, in a Brooklyn cap, stretches out to throw the ceremonial first pitch, with the Thing beside him. Deadline said the pitch goes to Joseph Quinn’s Human Torch.
• Familiar faces: Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers appears, leaving Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man confused about whom to call Captain America, since Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson now carries the shield, according to Deadline.
• The twist: Doctor Doom appears over the ballpark.

MLB also promoted the spot with real players. The league’s post said the preview “assembles Bryce Harper, Freddie Freeman, Jacob Misiorowski, Junior Caminero and Randy Arozarena,” Deadline reported.

Note that accounts of the spot differ a little. 9to5Marvel said the rumored Steve Rogers and Johnny Storm in the stands were “not in the spot as described so far,” while Deadline described both as appearing. Viewers who want to check for themselves can find the clip on MLB’s social channels.

Is this the Doomsday trailer?

Not a full trailer. It’s a short promo built for the World Series broadcast. Marvel has not announced a date for a new full trailer.

Before it aired, 9to5Marvel noted that MLB Network host Kait Maniscalco had posted that she was on set when an “iconic baseball scene” was filmed for the movie. Some reports had suggested the scene began life as a cut post-credits stinger for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Those reports came from industry insiders, and Marvel hasn’t confirmed that.

Sandra Hüller’s Avengers: Doomsday cameo

Hüller, the German actress who earned a best actress Oscar nomination for Anatomy of a Fall, will make a cameo in the film, Variety reported, after The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news. Her role is being kept secret, and Marvel Studios does not comment on casting.

Rumors about her involvement had circulated for weeks, Variety said. Some fans speculated that she could be connected to Doctor Doom, possibly as his mother, or could play one of the Latverian Witches Marvel showed at Comic-Con. None of that is confirmed. According to Variety, Doomsday will be Hüller’s fifth major film of 2026.

Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom

The movie’s biggest hook remains Robert Downey Jr.’s return to Marvel, this time as Victor von Doom rather than Iron Man. Deadline describes the plot as the multiverse collapsing, forcing heroes from multiple Earths to unite against Doom. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo are in post-production, Variety reported.

The cast also includes Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Hiddleston, Channing Tatum, Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen, along with actors from the Black Panther, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four and X-Men films.
