FAMU homecoming shooting: 12 injured near Bragg Stadium in Tallahassee, police say; no arrests yet
Twelve people were hurt, including six juveniles, in a shooting near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium on Saturday night, Oct. 24, after the school’s homecoming football game in Tallahassee, police said. As of Sunday morning, no arrests had been made.
This is a developing story, and details may change as the Tallahassee Police Department continues its investigation.
What police have confirmed about the FAMU shooting
Based on statements from Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revell and the department, as reported by WCTV and WFSU/The Associated Press:
- When: Officers responded just before 8 p.m. Saturday. FAMU’s homecoming game against Arkansas-Pine Bluff began at 3 p.m. and ended around 6 p.m., WCTV reported.
- Where: Near the intersection of Perry Street and Manatee Street, steps from Bragg Memorial Stadium.
- Injuries: 12 people were injured. Revell said 11 were shot, and one person was hurt while running from the scene.
- Ages: Six victims were adults and six were juveniles. WCTV reported the youngest was 11.
- How it started: Police said early findings indicate a physical fight broke out between two or three people before the shooting.
- Arrests: None as of Sunday morning. WCTV reported Revell said there was no person of interest at that point.
Victims’ conditions
Police said Sunday morning that five victims had been released from the hospital and six remained hospitalized. One person was still in critical condition, according to both WCTV and WFSU.
Earlier reports from the overnight news conference said at least three victims had serious injuries. Revell said he believed one victim was a FAMU student. Police have not publicly released the names of any of those injured.
What remains unknown
Several key questions had not been answered publicly as of Sunday:
- Who fired the shots, and how many people were involved
- What led to the fight before the gunfire
- Whether any of the victims were targeted
Revell said he believed it was an isolated incident, according to WCTV, while stressing that investigators were still working to determine exactly what happened.
What officials said
“I stand before you devastated,” Revell said at a news conference shortly after midnight, WCTV reported. “No family should experience…this kind of heartbreak.”
In a written statement reported by WFSU, Revell said officers “put their own safety at risk to carry victims to safety and transport them to the hospital” before the scene was fully secure. “It is especially heartbreaking to know that children are among those injured,” he said.
WCTV reported that about two dozen officers were already in the area when the shots were fired, with the full department working during the busy homecoming weekend.
Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey called it “a truly horrific and heartbreaking tragedy,” adding, “Tonight and in the days ahead, the FAMU family is not alone. Our entire community stands with you.”
FAMU homecoming 2026 and campus safety
Florida A&M University posted on social media Saturday night that “the campus remains safe” while asking people to avoid the area so law enforcement could investigate. The university also urged anyone with information to contact police.
