Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2026, identified the Citibank employee killed in Wednesday’s shooting at the Tampa Sabal Center campus as Leanne Selman, 41, of Palm Harbor. The gunman was identified as Jacob Pearson, 35, of Orlando. Pearson also died after Citibank security officer John Fraley shot him, the sheriff’s office said.

Selman had worked at Citibank for nine years as a learning adviser for Citi Security and Investigative Services, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office press release. Chronister said next of kin had been notified and that “our hearts are broken for Selman’s family, friends, and coworkers.”

This update follows Wednesday’s initial reports, when authorities had not yet released either name.

What investigators say happened

According to the sheriff’s Nov. 5 briefing and press release:

  • On the morning of Nov. 4, Pearson contacted a law firm handling a Citibank-related court summons over an alleged debt of about $2,500 and threatened to go to Citibank with a rifle and a bulletproof vest unless the case was canceled.
  • Orlando police and Citibank security treated the threat as credible. Pearson left his home angry before officers could intervene, Chronister said.
  • Shortly before noon, Citibank alerted HCSO. At 12:10 p.m., Pearson crashed through a campus gate. At 12:11 p.m., he opened fire and killed Selman. Deputies were arriving as shots began.
  • Within about a minute, Fraley — described as Citibank’s vice president and intelligence lead analyst, and a Marine Corps veteran — confronted Pearson in the cafeteria and shot him. Pearson was pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital at 1:12 p.m.

Chronister said Fraley’s actions stopped further bloodshed on a campus with about 3,200 people present. Four other people were treated for non-life-threatening issues tied to the evacuation (not gunshot wounds) and were released.

About Selman — and what is still unclear

Public accounts describe Selman as a longtime Citibank employee from the Palm Harbor area. Chronister’s narrative frames Pearson’s rage as directed at the company over the collection dispute. Local reports differ slightly on whether Selman was specifically targeted or was the first employee Pearson encountered in the courtyard; FOX 13 noted authorities had not fully explained any prior personal link. Readers should treat motive and targeting details as still under investigation.

We are not repeating graphic descriptions beyond what officials stated for the public record. Selman’s family deserves privacy as funeral and memorial plans, if any, become known.

Campus and company response

The Citibank Center / Sabal Center campus off Falkenburg Road near Brandon is a large multi-building office park that held roughly 3,200 employees that day, HCSO said. Citi and local officials have emphasized counseling resources for staff. Earlier coverage of the attack, before names were released, is linked below.

Investigators have said Pearson had no prior criminal record. Details about how he obtained the firearms used in the assault had not been fully disclosed in the Thursday briefings cited here.

Security response

Chronister praised Fraley as “a hero, plain and simple,” saying the guard ran toward danger and ended the threat within minutes. Roughly 367 Hillsborough deputies responded, along with partner agencies, to clear the sprawling campus and reunite employees.

The case remains an active HCSO homicide investigation. Further updates, the sheriff’s office said, will come from its Public Affairs Office.
