Records and rankings
BYU arrived 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Big 12 play, alone at the top of the conference. The Cougars climbed to No. 2 in the AP poll after a 28-24 upset of Notre Dame the previous weekend. That win came with controversy: officials admitted to mistakes with the game clock that kept the Irish from getting one final play, The Charge reported.
UCF entered 3-3 and 1-2 in the Big 12. The Knights had lost their last two conference games after building early leads, against Oklahoma State and Houston.
Key players: Keyone Jenkins and the quarterback situation
UCF senior Keyone Jenkins was expected to make his fifth straight start at quarterback. Redshirt senior Alonza Barnett III has been out with a hamstring injury, and ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Barnett would not be available Saturday, though offensive coordinator Steve Cooper said earlier in the week that “he could still be available,” per The Charge.
UCF coach Scott Frost praised Jenkins’ play. “[Jenkins] has been doing a really good job, so we’ll make some decisions when [Barnett] gets back and is definitely ready to go,” Frost said, according to The Charge.
BYU’s offense runs through quarterback Bear Bachmeier, with Kyler Kasper as a top receiving target in Saturday’s game, per ESPN’s game center.
What’s at stake
For BYU, the stakes are simple: an unbeaten season, a spot near the top of the national rankings and a firm grip on the Big 12 race. The Cougars came in allowing just 15.2 points and 274.7 yards a game while averaging 421.2 yards on offense, The Charge reported.
For UCF, a win over a top-two team would be the biggest of the season. The Knights were underdogs, and BYU had won four of the five previous meetings, including a 41-21 win in November 2025. UCF’s only win in the series came in 2014.
BYU vs. UCF predictions
