Final: Browns 27, Titans 24. Andre Szmyt kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired on Sunday, Oct. 25, in Nashville to lift the Cleveland Browns past the Tennessee Titans. It was his second walk-off winner in as many games.

The Browns improved to 5-2 and stayed in first place in the AFC North. The Titans fell to 1-6.

The winning drive

Tony Pollard’s third touchdown of the day, a 1-yard run with 58 seconds left, tied the game 24-24. Deshaun Watson then had one more drive left.

Cleveland went 55 yards in four plays, according to the Browns. The key play was a 36-yard catch-and-run by tight end Harold Fannin Jr. that set up Szmyt’s kick. According to The Associated Press, it was Watson’s fifth winning drive in the fourth quarter this season.

The play was controversial. AP reported that officials appeared to miss a false start by the Browns on the Fannin catch. Asked about it, Titans coach Robert Saleh said, “Live, I think they did, yeah.”

Szmyt’s game-winner made up for a 43-yard miss off the right upright early in the fourth quarter.

Deshaun Watson stats

Watson completed 25 of 36 passes for 308 yards and ran for a 9-yard touchdown that put Cleveland up 24-17 with 4:34 left. The Browns said it was his first 300-yard passing game with the team. He also threw an interception early that set up a Tennessee touchdown.

“So, if we’re close enough in it and we have those opportunities, we just got to lock in,” Watson said, according to AP.

First-year Browns coach Todd Monken said Watson “has something in him to be able to make plays when it counts.”

A missed chance for Tennessee

The Titans jumped out to a 14-0 lead, their best start of the season. Then they were stopped on fourth-and-goal from just outside the end zone in the second quarter, when Maliek Collins stuffed Pollard.

“We’ve got to be able to push it in from the inch-yard line,” Saleh said, according to AP.

On the late tying drive, Cam Ward converted a fourth-and-8 to Elic Ayomanor, then hit Carnell Tate for 18 yards to the 1 before Pollard scored.

AP, citing Sportradar, reported that the loss means the Titans have tied the 2014-18 Browns for the most consecutive games without back-to-back wins in the same season, at 65.
