The Voice Season 30: Kelly Clarkson sends Kavi Nyx home as the Battles wrap and Cut Week begins
The Battle Rounds of The Voice Season 30 ended on Monday, Oct. 26, and the most talked-about moment came from Team Kelly. Kelly Clarkson chose Brooklyn Marie over Kavi Nyx after the two teens sang “Titanium” by David Guetta and Sia, and with no coach stepping in to steal her, Kavi Nyx was sent home.
She was one of four artists eliminated on the episode, the last night of Battles before the show moves into what NBC calls Cut Week.
What happened in the Kelly Clarkson battle
According to Good Housekeeping, Brooklyn Marie and Kavi Nyx delivered a performance that left all four coaches (Clarkson, Adam Levine, Riley Green and Queen Latifah) struggling with the decision. “You’re both the most unique singers on my team,” Clarkson told the pair in a clip shared by the show. “You have a quality to you that’s unlike anyone else in the competition.”
NBC Insider noted that the duo held hands as their coach announced her pick. Clarkson went with Brooklyn Marie, who advances to Cut Week.
Kavi Nyx had first caught attention earlier this month with a Blind Audition of Billie Eilish’s “Wildflower,” which got both Clarkson and Levine to turn their chairs. Good Housekeeping reported that many viewers were upset that nobody used a Steal on her, with comments calling her “the clear winner.” Kavi Nyx had not publicly commented on her elimination as of that report.
Everyone eliminated on the Oct. 26 episode
Only one Steal was used on the night, by Queen Latifah. Here’s how the battles played out, based on NBC Insider and On The Flix:
| Team | Battle song | Advanced | Eliminated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Queen Latifah | “Never Enough” | Mia Knight | Sophia Liano |
| Riley Green | “Wondering Why” | Cade Mower | Brayden Howell |
| Adam Levine | “All I Wanted” | Lexi Stephens | Marilyn Hucek |
| Kelly Clarkson | “Titanium” | Brooklyn Marie | Kavi Nyx |
| Adam Levine | “Bring Me to Life” | Dakota Cohen | None (Destinee Monroe stolen by Queen Latifah) |
A few details from the night:
- Sophia Liano channeled her experience of being body-shamed as a cruise ship performer into her take on “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman, per NBC Insider.
- Brayden Howell reflected on his yearlong journey from brain surgery patient to The Voice stage after leaving Team Riley.
- Marilyn Hucek spoke about how her multicultural upbringing shaped her as an artist.
- Destinee Monroe lost her battle to Dakota Cohen but stays in the competition on Team Queen.
Mentor help this round came from Carly Pearce for Team Riley, Ariana DeBose for Team Kelly, Patti LaBelle for Team Queen and Alex Warren for Team Adam, according to On The Flix.
Team Kelly’s eliminations so far
With Kavi Nyx out, NBC Insider’s tracker lists six artists cut from Clarkson’s team during the Battles: Lance Tenazas, Johnnie Kapua, Hazel Gerson, Matthew Chiu, Saade and Kavi Nyx.
What’s next: Cut Week
The remaining artists now head into Cut Week, which NBC describes as the biggest elimination in the show’s history. During that stretch, coaches will send half of their artists home before the Live Shows begin. Queen Latifah jokingly dubbed it “Cuss Week,” and NBC Insider noted none of the coaches are happy about the decisions ahead.
When is The Voice on? New episodes air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and stream the next day on Peacock.
Who won Kelly’s battle? Brooklyn Marie, who moves on to Cut Week.
Was Kavi Nyx stolen? No. No coach used a Steal on her, so she left the competition.
