The Elder Scrolls VI Is Officially Called Sentinel, Bethesda Reveals in 40th Anniversary Video
After more than eight years of near silence, Bethesda has given the next Elder Scrolls game a name: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The title was revealed on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the end of a video of under 10 minutes celebrating 40 years of Bethesda, narrated by studio chief Todd Howard.
That is all Bethesda shared. There is no trailer, no gameplay, no platforms and no release date. The Verge reported that the Xbox Wire post on the name was “literally just a picture of the logo.”
How Bethesda revealed the name
The anniversary video looks back at the studio’s history, starting with its early sports game Gridiron, according to PC Gamer, before moving through The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.
Near the end, Howard says, per PC Gamer: “You know, everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls 6. And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called.”
The game was first announced with a short teaser in 2018. The Verge noted the name drop also lands around the 15th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which came out in November 2011.
Is Sentinel set in Hammerfell?
Bethesda has not formally confirmed a setting, but the clues point one way. Sentinel is the name of a major kingdom in Hammerfell, the desert province of the Redguards, and the capital of the Alik’r Desert region, PC Gamer explained. The teaser shows an Elder Scroll emerging from sand.
After the title card, a quote appears: “The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate.” It is credited to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, in the year 4E 206. PC Gamer, citing the fan wiki UESP, said that date would place the game at least five years after the events of Skyrim.
The Verge went further, reporting that Sentinel will be set in Hammerfell, a province previously visited in The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard and The Elder Scrolls Online, and that it will dig into the history of the Elder Scrolls themselves, the mysterious ancient artifacts the series is named after. Bethesda has not announced those details itself.
Elder Scrolls 6 release date
There isn’t one. Bethesda did not give a release window, and Howard’s remarks in the video did not mention timing. The Verge had reported the week before that Bethesda planned to reveal the name in November, which turned out to be right, but neither outlet reported a launch date.
Until Bethesda says more, treat any specific date or platform list from unofficial sources as rumor.
