PSG 1-0 Troyes: Zabarnyi Header Extends Weakened Paris Saint-Germain's Winning Streak to 11 Games
Paris Saint-Germain beat Troyes 1-0 at the Parc des Princes on Saturday, Nov. 7, with Ukrainian defender Illia Zabarnyi’s first-half header the only goal. The win was PSG’s 11th in a row in all competitions, AFP reported, which is the longest winning streak of Luis Enrique’s time in charge.
It wasn’t pretty. PSG were missing a long list of regulars and couldn’t put away a newly promoted side that sits in the Ligue 1 relegation zone. Still, the reigning champions go into the international break top of the table.
How the goal happened
Zabarnyi broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. According to AFP, Desire Doue took a corner quickly, and Zabarnyi headed in Senny Mayulu’s cross. AFP said it was the defender’s second goal of the season, and Flashscore named him its man of the match.
PSG should have gone into halftime two goals up. Troyes goalkeeper Hillel Konate kept denying Ferran Torres, and the Spaniard also sent a delicate chip just wide before the break, Flashscore reported.
A weakened PSG lineup
Luis Enrique was without several stars. AFP listed Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembele, Nuno Mendes, Maghnes Akliouche and captain Marquinhos as injured. Achraf Hakimi was rested, and Joao Neves started on the bench.
Flashscore noted that four of the missing players, Marquinhos, Dembele, Mendes and Kvaratskhelia, are 2026 Ballon d’Or nominees. The patched-up side lacked fluency, especially in the first half.
PSG started brightly anyway. Konate deflected a Mayulu shot onto the crossbar inside the first five minutes, and Mayulu hit the side netting soon after.
Troyes had chances to equalize
Troyes made a real game of it. Renaud Ripart fired wide early and forced PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov into a save with a glancing header, Flashscore reported. Early in the second half, Ripart was one-on-one with Safonov and put the chance wide.
Troyes did get the ball into the net with a little under 10 minutes left. Safonov saved a Dermane Karim free kick, Lucas Maronnier turned in the rebound, and the goal was ruled out for offside.
At the other end, Warren Zaire-Emery headed wide and Konate made yet another save from Torres midway through the second half. AFP noted that Torres has now gone eight games without a goal after scoring seven in his first six PSG appearances.
Where this leaves the Ligue 1 table
AFP reported that the result moves PSG three points clear of Paris FC at the top of Ligue 1. It was their seventh league win in a row, coming days after a 6-0 Champions League rout of Villarreal.
Paris FC kept pace earlier on Saturday with a 1-0 win at Auxerre, thanks to a goal from league top scorer Lassine Sinayoko, according to AFP. Lille and Lyon are still in touch with both Paris clubs ahead of their Sunday games.
For Troyes, scoring is the problem. Flashscore noted that no Ligue 1 team has scored fewer than their seven goals this season. AFP described the club, which is backed by City Football Group, as likely to struggle to stay in the top flight.
What’s next
After the international break, PSG travel to Nice in two weeks and then host Roma in the Champions League, AFP reported.
