GTA 6 File Size: PS5 Download Reportedly 210GB Ahead of Nov. 12 Preload
Grand Theft Auto VI is going to need a lot of room. The PS5 version of Rockstar’s long-awaited game will take up about 210GB of storage, according to a report from the X account PlayStation Game Size that was picked up by GameSpot and Game Rant on Tuesday, Oct. 27.
That figure would put GTA 6 among the largest console games ever, roughly double the size of Rockstar’s last game, Red Dead Redemption 2, GameSpot noted. With preloading set to open about two weeks from now, players are already wondering what they’ll have to delete.
What we know about the GTA 6 file size
| Detail | Status |
|---|---|
| PS5 standard edition download | About 210GB, per PlayStation Game Size |
| Xbox Series X/S download | Not yet revealed |
| Ultimate Edition size | Not yet revealed |
| Preload start | Nov. 12 (previously announced) |
| Release date | Nov. 19, on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S |
| Release time | Midnight, per PlayStation Game Size |
GameSpot said the 210GB figure applies to the $79.99 standard edition. Size details for the $100 Ultimate Edition were not available.
Is the 210GB figure official?
Not quite. Game Rant’s headline describes the size as confirmed, but its own report says the figure “has yet to be formally confirmed” for both platforms and that Sony’s PlayStation Store does not yet list a public storage requirement. Rockstar has not announced a number.
Game Rant noted that PlayStation Game Size has been a reliable source of file-size details for years, with past accurate reports on games such as Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree and Tekken 8. The site said the number was likely pulled from Sony’s servers, as preload metadata often surfaces ahead of launch. Still, treat 210GB as a strong report rather than a final spec.
Will the Xbox version be the same size?
Unknown. GameSpot said the Xbox Series X/S size is “likely around the same.” Game Rant was more cautious, pointing out that Rockstar’s console versions have differed before: Red Dead Redemption 2 needed 99GB on PS4 at launch and 107GB on Xbox One.
Expect it to grow
Both outlets suggest 210GB is not a ceiling. Game Rant said post-launch patches and updates are more likely to push the size up than down, and a future version of GTA Online, rumored for 2027, could add more. GameSpot described GTA 6 as strictly single-player at launch.
How to get ready
- Check your free space. GameSpot expects many players will have to delete other content to fit the game on a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S.
- Plan for the download. Preloading opens Nov. 12, a week before release, giving slower connections time to finish.
- Remember it’s digital at launch. Game Rant reported that Rockstar said in June that there will be no physical release at launch.
Why GTA 6 is such a big deal
GTA 6 has been one of the most anticipated games in years. GameSpot said its map is three times larger than Red Dead Redemption 2’s, and cited a report projecting as many as 25 million preorders by launch and $2 billion in revenue. Preorders opened June 25, according to Game Rant. A PC version is expected in early 2027, per GameSpot.
