AT&T data breach settlement payout dates: When the $177 million payments could arrive
Millions of current and former AT&T customers who filed claims in the company’s data breach class action want to know one thing: when the money shows up. The short answer is that no official payout date has been announced yet, but the court’s approval this month started a clock that points to payments in late 2026 or early 2027.

What happened in court
Senior U.S. District Judge Sidney A. Fitzwater granted final approval of the $177 million settlement on Oct. 2, 2026, in the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division, according to the official settlement website and a review of the 73-page order by Recording Law. The case resolves lawsuits over two data breaches AT&T disclosed in March and July 2024.
The settlement has two all-cash funds:
| Fund | Amount | Covers |
|---|---|---|
| AT&T 1 | $149 million | The breach disclosed in March 2024 |
| AT&T 2 | $28 million | The July 2024 incident tied to Snowflake |
When will AT&T settlement payouts arrive?
The order does not set a payment date. Under the settlement agreement, payments are to go out electronically or by paper check within 60 days after the “Effective Date,” as MySA and Beinsure reported.
That Effective Date depends on appeals. Based on the agreement’s terms and the normal 30-day federal appeal window, MySA and Beinsure estimate:
- Nov. 2, 2026: the usual deadline to appeal the Oct. 2 approval (the 30th day falls on a Sunday).
- About Nov. 12, 2026: the projected Effective Date if no appeal or deadline-extending motion is filed.
- About Jan. 11, 2027: the end of the 60-day window to distribute payments under that projection.
Both outlets stress these are estimates, not an announced schedule. If someone appeals, the Effective Date generally becomes 30 days after the last appellate ruling upholding approval or after an appeal is dismissed, which could push payments back by months.
How much could each person get?
Claimants could choose a documented-loss payment or a tiered cash payment. Documented losses were capped at $5,000 for the AT&T 1 class and $2,500 for the AT&T 2 class, with proof. The administrator’s estimates for the tiered pro-rata payments are much smaller, according to the order as summarized by Recording Law:
| Payment type | Estimated amount |
|---|---|
| AT&T 1, Tier 1 | About $39 to $40 |
| AT&T 2, Tier 2 | About $7.50 to $8.10 |
| AT&T 2, Tier 3 | About $6.50 to $7.10 |
The court described those figures as contingent on certain variables. It also approved $59 million in attorneys’ fees, about one-third of each fund, plus litigation costs, service awards for class representatives and administration costs, all of which come out before the tier payments are calculated.
What about Texas claimants?
The case is being handled in federal court in Dallas, which is why many Texas outlets are following it closely. Texans who filed valid claims are treated the same way as other class members across the country. There is no separate Texas payout schedule in the reporting.
Can you still file a claim?
No. The claim deadline was Dec. 18, 2025, and it has passed. People who already submitted valid claims do not need to file again, Beinsure noted; they should watch for messages from the settlement administrator.

If no appeal is filed, estimates put the Effective Date around Nov. 12, 2026, with payments due by about Jan. 11, 2027.
Is the Texas payout date different?
Not according to the reporting. The case is in a Dallas federal court, but the same schedule applies to all claimants.
