A day after news spread that Alan Dysert had died at 75, the tributes that followed focused less on Pine Valley and more on the classroom.

Dysert, best known for playing con man Sean Cudahy on ABC’s All My Children, died on Oct. 23, 2026, his wife, Michele Dysert, said in a Facebook post on Oct. 25. On Monday, his agent spoke publicly for the first time, and soap outlets invited fans to share memories of the actor.

His agent: “He was loved by many”

Dysert’s agent, Melinda Eisnaugle, confirmed his death to USA Today on Oct. 26.

“He was loved by many in the industry community. His generosity, kindness, and encouragement always made him stand out,” Eisnaugle said. “Our industry has lost a man who made the world and our communities a better place for all that he did and everyone that he met. He has left a legacy of grace and positivity – we will honor his legacy by striving to continue living by his ideals.”

Michele’s post, quoted by USA Today, called him “a life changer” through his work at The Actor’s School in Franklin, Tennessee. “My heart is broken,” she wrote, calling their marriage “the love of a lifetime.”

No cause of death has been announced. Dysert had written in his 2023 memoir, Lights, Camera, Cancer!, about living with a rare, aggressive and incurable cancer.

The teacher behind The Actor’s School

Soap Opera Magazine summed it up this way: soap fans met Dysert in Pine Valley, but “thousands of aspiring performers met him in the classroom.”

On the school’s website, Dysert described his approach in his own words. He wrote that he had worked with more than 3,000 actors and singers, and that he wanted a “very positive and safe environment” because “dreams and dreamers are fragile.”

He also wrote openly about stage fright, saying he had dealt with it for 25 years of his own career. That led to a program he called “Fight the Fear,” aimed at helping people overcome a fear of speaking and performing in public. According to the site, he also worked as a speaker and trainer for executives, sales teams and attorneys, and was known as an acting coach for Nashville recording artists.

Life after Pine Valley

The school’s biography lists work that went beyond acting:

  • Producing and hosting a six-part series, Behind the Scenes at All My Children
  • Writing, producing and directing multimedia shows for The Ronnie Milsap Theater and The Lee Greenwood Theater
  • Producing Home to the Ryman for the Holidays, featuring Martina McBride, Emmylou Harris and Steve Wariner

His most recent acting credit was the 2026 independent film The Legend of Van Dorn, which he produced and filmed in Tennessee, USA Today reported.

“People running for president” asked for autographs

USA Today also resurfaced a 1995 interview Dysert gave The Tennessean about soap fame.

“I’ve had people running for president come up to me in the airport lounge and ask me for an autograph for their kids,” he said then. “Whole teams on some of the professional sports teams watch the show in the locker rooms and want to come on the set when they’re in New York.”

On All My Children, Sean Cudahy was convicted in the murder of nurse Sybil Thorne and later returned to Pine Valley after prison, quickly going back to his grifting ways, according to USA Today.

How the family wants him remembered

Michele wrote that Alan wanted his children, grandchildren, family and friends to celebrate his life rather than mourn. She asked people to “remember Alan with a smile, share a favorite story, and celebrate the joy he brought into this world.” He is survived by Michele and his sons, Cody and Cooper.

Soap Opera Magazine noted a line from his autobiography that captured his outlook: “It’s been a great ride and I am grateful for every bit of it.”
