Cowboys run over Eagles 38-21: Javonte Williams rushes for 155, Dak Prescott throws 3 TDs as Tanner McKee struggles

The Dallas Cowboys ran right through Philadelphia on Monday night. Javonte Williams rushed for a career-high 155 yards, Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes and the Cowboys beat the Eagles 38-21 in Philadelphia on Monday Night Football, Oct. 26.

Dallas improved to 3-4 and stayed in the NFC East race. Philadelphia fell to 2-5 with its fifth straight loss, its longest skid since 2016, the Associated Press reported.

Javonte Williams leads a rare Dallas ground game

Dallas came in last in the NFL in carries per game, averaging 20.9, and 30th in rushing yards at 76 per game, the Cowboys’ site noted. On Monday it ran 38 times for 204 yards.

Williams’ 155 yards were the most by a Cowboys running back since Ezekiel Elliott, the team’s recap said, and the AP called it Dallas’ first 150-yard rushing game since 2018. He finished the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown after six straight handoffs late in the fourth quarter.

“Javonte, man, the power, the acceleration, it was there tonight. He looked great,” coach Brian Schottenheimer said, per the AP.

Prescott, coming off two rough outings, also passed Tony Romo for the most multi-touchdown games in franchise history with 80, according to the Cowboys.

How Tanner McKee played for the Eagles

McKee started because Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the rest of the season with blood clots in his lungs, the AP reported. The backup completed 23 of 35 passes for 211 yards.

He led a long third-quarter touchdown drive that ended with a 4-yard pass to rookie Makai Lemon for a 21-20 lead. It was the Eagles’ first third-quarter touchdown drive of the season, per the AP.

But Dallas answered with Lamb’s 16-yard touchdown and a Prescott two-point run for a 28-21 lead. In the fourth quarter, McKee’s pass was intercepted by Overshown, who was playing his first game since a Week 1 hamstring injury. The Eagles did not score again.

The AP noted the Eagles are now 3-6 without Hurts since he became the starter in 2021.

Philadelphia allowed 416 yards, 6.4 yards per play and 25 first downs, and has given up at least 375 yards in every game of its losing streak, the AP said. The Inquirer’s grades singled out the defensive line and cornerback Riq Woolen as struggling.

Barkley returned from a hamstring injury and scored on an 8-yard run, but he appeared bothered by the hamstring and his back and visited the sideline medical tent, per the AP. The Eagles also played without receiver DeVonta Smith, and kick returner Britain Covey hurt his knee in the first quarter.

“Football is going to deal you some tough hands at times,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. “Can you get up and keep fighting?”
