The Memphis Grizzlies are still perfect, but the night in Salt Lake City will be remembered more for what happened to the Utah Jazz. Memphis beat Utah 110-105 on Monday, Oct. 26, at the Delta Center to improve to 4-0, while the Jazz lost Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. to injuries in the first half.

Both players are scheduled for MRIs on Tuesday, Jazz coach Will Hardy said after the game. “We’ll know more tomorrow once they get some imaging,” Hardy told reporters, according to Yahoo Sports.

Lauri Markkanen and Jaren Jackson Jr. injuries

The trouble started midway through the first quarter with Utah ahead 13-11. As Markkanen came off a screen from Jackson, his right hand got caught between Memphis rookie Cameron Boozer’s arm and Jackson’s body and appeared to bend backward, Yahoo Sports reported. Markkanen left favoring his right wrist, was listed as questionable to return and was ruled out a few minutes later. He finished with two points in about six minutes.

Not long after, Ty Jerome drove into the lane, drew a foul and fell into Jackson’s right leg as Jackson stood in the restricted area. Jackson went down in pain and was also ruled out. He had six points, three rebounds and two assists in about 10 minutes.

What is known so far:

Player Injury Minutes Status
Lauri Markkanen Right wrist 6 MRI scheduled Tuesday
Jaren Jackson Jr. Right knee 10 MRI scheduled Tuesday

The severity of either injury has not been announced. The timing is rough for Utah’s frontcourt: center Jusuf Nurkić is already out with a right foot injury, and backup Jaxson Hayes missed Monday’s game with right shoulder soreness. Yahoo noted that Markkanen and Jackson, two All-Star forwards, have played barely 100 minutes together since Jackson arrived from Memphis at the February 2026 trade deadline.

How Memphis held on

The Grizzlies controlled most of the night. They led 30-21 after one quarter, and three straight 3-pointers from Quinten Post, Cam Spencer and Cedric Coward pushed the lead to 87-71 late in the third, the AP reported.

Utah answered with a 15-3 run and got within 102-101 on a Keyonte George three-point play with 3:37 left. Jerome then hit back-to-back baskets to keep the Jazz from taking the lead. Mo Bamba’s dunk cut it to one again with 1:01 to go, but Jaylen Wells and Jerome made free throws in the final minute to seal it.

Memphis made 16 of 37 3-pointers and 20 of 22 free throws, per the box score.
